How to Handle Battery Issues and Service

Your car’s battery may need service from time to time, and we want you to be educated on how to handle battery problems.

There are a few different reasons why car batteries have issues. Here are a few:

• Parasitic battery drains
• Extreme hot and cold temperatures
• Failed alternator
• Accessories left on with engine stopped

If your car’s battery repeatedly fails to function, take it to a shop like Diffee Ford to be tested.

Replacing the battery is relatively simple, but it can also be dangerous.

Safely remove the battery by disconnecting the negative terminal first. Most cars have at least one mounting bolt that holds the battery in place, so don’t get frustrated if you try to pull the battery and it seems to be stuck. Use a flashlight when changing the battery to locate hidden mounting bolts and to inspect the terminals for corrosion.
